How To
Become a Mason

INSTRUCTIONS ON JOINING FREEMASONRY

  1. Find the state or country in which you reside, then select the Grand Lodge for that state. Each states Grand Lodge site should have a local "lodge" locator in which to choose from. If you cannot find a lodge locator, ask 1.
  2. Find a lodge you wish to apply for. It may be close to your work, home, school, base, or any other location convenient to you. Use the states Lodge Locator to find that nearest lodge. Contact the lodge of your choice for more information and instruction on joining and an application.
  3. Once completed, the application must be signed by several Master Masons (varies by lodges) who recommend you for membership. You will have met Masons at the lodge event. You can also contact the lodge secretary for assistance, which will be provided for you.
  4. Return your application and any fees. The lodge will schedule visits with you at an agreed upon location to discuss your application and to answer any questions you may have. A report will be made at the lodges next stated meeting to discuss and vote on your application.
  5. With your acceptance, you will be notified that you have been elected as a candidate for the degrees of Freemasonry, and you will receive instructions about participation in the ceremonies to come. Once completed, you will then be a full member.

These steps may vary state to state and country to country, but are essentially the same. Additionally, the time line may vary location to location for how quick the application is received, reviewed, and voted upon
